We all wish our pets could live forever. October is Pet Wellness Month and we’d like to offer you some important reminders to keep your pets healthy, full of energy, and happy.

Weight Control

When your dog becomes obese, it can lead to health problems like skin irritations, cancer, disc issues, and even heart failure.  An overweight dog will have a decreased quality of life in general. Treats are fine, but don’t overdo it.  Ensure your pet is eating nutritious and fresh food like Pet Wants and that you’re giving them the appropriate amount. A pet that is overweight   will have a noticeable lack of energy and a decline in their overall health.

Exercise

Another way to aid in pet wellness is exercise.  We all know that exercise burns calories, but it does so much more! Exercise will increase your dog’s metabolism…and that boost will continue even after Fido is snoozing away on the couch after his walk. Keeping your dog active will help maintain the health of his muscles, tendons, bones, and even his precious heart. And spending some time outside in nature playing with your pup will be good for both of you.

Time Well Spent

Spending time of significance with your furry friend is important to pet wellness. Pets are family, so walk them, talk to them, and play with them. This mental stimulation and affection will make them feel happy which is so important to their health.  Lack of interaction or attention can make dogs feel depressed and even seem lethargic.  Remember that all the fun time spent with your pet will be rewarded right back to you in cuddles, wet nose kisses, and wagging tails.

Nutrition

Nutrition is so important for your pet. Good nutrition that provides protein, vitamins, and minerals keeps your dog strong and boosts their immunity against many diseases.  Pet Wants pet food is made fresh each and every month.  The fresher the food, the more nutrients it retains. You never know how long pet food at chain stores has been on the shelf.  You can be assured that at Pet Wants we use the highest quality ingredients that are fresh when they get to your dog’s bowl.

We hope these tips give you some insight on how you can keep your dog healthy so they can be around for a long time.  Watching their weight, giving them exercise, spending quality time, and feeding them nutritious food every day will certainly give your dogs a great start at living their best life.  For more information about your pets, or to try one of nutritious blends, please contact Pet Wants Cincy West at (513) 498-2883.
